The Deception of Titles and First Impressions

So today in church we had combined meeting for 3rd hour(it's actually our first hour), the lesson was Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration, and it started out by showing us a clip of the movie where Joseph is courting Emma and how he tells her she must find out and believe for herself. Brother Smith(teacher/1st counselor) stopped it while Joseph and Emma were sharing a kiss. He then said that he had decided to change the topic of the lesson a little, since I'm in a singles ward I assumed it would be on dating and marriage. And it kinda was but it was more focused on maintaining our testimony in order to maintain a marriage. Then in Sacrament meeting the talks were on Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration and one of the speakers spoke on prayer instead. So what did I learn, well the title of the talk does not reveal it's contents but just because you didn't get what you thought was coming doesn't mean you should dismiss it because I learned A LOT in the lessons and talks at church today.

Now I will proceed to my baking. Recently I've tried (and succeeded) at making stuffed cookies. I did the Nutella stuffed sugar cookies and tonight I made these.

Looks like a chocolate crinkle cookie right? Right, but let me tell you it gets so much better once you taste it because once you bite into it you find out that it's a peanut butter stuffed chocolate cookie.

In case you missed that let me reiterate. A PEANUT BUTTER STUFFED CHOCOLATE COOKIE or you can just call it DELICIOUS if you would prefer a shorter name. I found the recipe on Pinterest (of course, it's only the best site for finding fun recipes to try). You can find the original recipe in the link. I used a hand mixer because well it works just fine and I also replaced the 1/4 cup of Peanut Butter in the batter with a 1/4 of Nutella because I could and it turned out just fine (except that you couldn't taste any Nutella flavor). They are really tedious, but if you want to feel impressed with yourself after you make these you will feel accomplished.

My last note for the blog is to not judge anything on a title or first impression. Most people are not who they appear, whether good or bad. This week I was reading one of my favorite blogs, eastercloset.com, it's a dating blog written by a Provo Allstar(that is the word for great guys in Provo that have graduated BYU and are still single). It was talking about being shallow, which I readily admit that I am. But most people are and just won't admit it. He talked about how we project, how we will decide what a person is like when we meet them by the way they appear, if we think they are attractive or not. So it is a goal of mine to try to do that a little less, I can't set the goal that I will stop because I don't see that ever happening, but to give people a chance, because what if I see them as just a plain old chocolate cookie (which I'm not a huge fan of) when in fact they might be the best cookie I've ever had. (That's right I just compared people, guys specifically, to cookies)

  1. I'm really happy that you compared guys to cookies...and sad that I missed out on the cookies!

  2. If you want a good chocolate peanut butter cookie recipe I'm particularly fond of this one:

I just replace the 1/2 C peanuts with 1 C peanut butter chips and omit the salt for sprinkling. I usually only bake these for 8 minutes, not the 12 it calls for.
