The Art of Blogging

I sure do not possess it.

Do you ever start a blog post that you can never seem to finish, no matter how much you work on it? Well that's how this one has been. I couldn't figure out how I wanted to order my topics, or if my topics were even interesting enough to talk about. So then I would Pinterest and never get back to blogging. But here my scattered brain blog goes.

  • I finally traveled out of the western United States...all the way to the midwest. I went to AMI 2012 in Kansas City, MO put on by the Non-Profit Leadership Alliance. I needed to attend in order to become a Certified Non-Profit Professional.

  • During this Trip I had two missionary opportunities, something I don't get a whole lot. The first one was on my plane flight to Kansas City. I definitely didn't take advantage of, I didn't even bear my testimony. Looking back on it I don't know if the guy was really interested in the LDS faith or he was just trying to make conversation with me because he thought I was attractive. (Really who wouldn't want to talk to me ;)) He was making improvements in his life; he was switching jobs so he wouldn't be working at a bar, watching and promoting people to destroy their life with alcohol. The second came when I was with classmates eating lunch during the conference. This one went a little better because the guy sitting next to me is a teacher at the MTC, needless to say he practices taking missionary opportunities. It was going great but we realized that out of the 5 BYU students that were in the conversation, none of us had brought a Book of Mormon to give away. We fixed that when we went to the Visitor's Center on our Church History field trip that night, but we didn't see the girl again so it didn't help.

  • For one of the nights during the conference they gave us the night off so we could explore the town. Some of their suggestions were to go to the Power and Light district, which is full of bars/clubs (not quite BYU approved). So instead we had a donor pay for a charter bus and we went to Independence and Liberty. I REALLY enjoyed it. Liberty Jail is probably one of my favorite church historical sites. I feel bad sometimes that I love Joseph Smith's trials so much but I (and probably the rest of the members of the church) have learned so much from them. I am thankful the Heavenly Father lets me suffer through trials so that I can truly be a faithful disciple of Christ.
