So every summer I think I should pick up running, but I never follow through with it, for various reasons, mainly I had terrible running shoes so it made my feet hurt and it gave me a headache because of the pounding and my incorrect breathing. Every other summer it's been ok that I didn't follow through because I had some other form of exercise. Now that I've graduated I can no longer take exercise classes and I don't walk up those crazy stairs everyday and so I'm feeling a little flabby. Also being around someone that averages at least 8 miles a day (depending on the season, he runs more during cross country) makes me feel a little bit lazy for not exercising. Which is why James and I went shopping and I bought a pair of running shoes.
It was fun having him help me pick out shoes at the store, he considers himself somewhat of a running expert, and I'll give him that title. I didn't ever imagine myself dating a runner but it's worked out well and provided us with something else we have in common. In elementary school, Bethany, Jonathan and I would go to school early and run laps around the playground. I loved running races! This is something that when I told people they would look at me like I was crazy but James ran even more than me when he was young so he thought I was normal. I ran cross country through middle school but decided not to run cross country my first two years of high school even though I had the girls cross country coach often asking me if I would join the team. Finally I decided I was going to run XC my Junior year and had even put it as one of the sports I was going to participate in on my physical, well that didn't quite work out, who would have thought that I couldn't run at least 5 miles a day coming out of surgery a few weeks before. Anyway the point I'm getting to is that I like to run, and I went for a 1.5 mile run this morning in my new shoes and I loved it.
I've decided I'm going to sign up for a race to keep me motivated, I haven't decided what race it will be, I'm looking into the Bisbee 1000 to see if it would be possible, but who knows what will happen.
Your legs are looking great. So happy that they are healing.
ReplyDeletehave you ever heard of RUN FOR YOUR LIFE? It is in October in San Diego. (I think it is 5K, running from Zombies)
Deleterunning from zombies=not for me. I'm a lot like my mother in that I do not enjoy scary things. However my roommate might like that seeing as one of her favorite books is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
